Wind

Practicing just a smidge of Qigong I noticed the wind moving through the dense green of the enormous maple out the window.

I gotta get out there.

Shower first.  Hmm.  Hair wet.  Ooh.  Slouchy red hat.  Wait.  TCM.  Thoughts stream linear.

During Lung season, which is right now, one is supposed to take care with wind.  It is considered best not to go out when windy.  And if you have to, to wrap up thoroughly so the wind does not go through you.  Into you.  The wind carries stuff.  Old stuff, dead stuff, cold stuff.  During this season, the lungs are particularly sensitive, open, receptive.  (Mine have been exquisitely, painfully so.)

It's a dance for me.  I have always loved the wind.  It feels like a part of me.  I am an Air sign.  This morning it is beyond me not to go out into it.  Off comes the woolen wrap, under the hot shower I go.

I gotta get out there.

I would have never associated wind with carrying old stuff, dead stuff. It always seems to me that wind blows the nasties away and brings new life - to kites, to leaves dancing in the breeze. When I was a kid, there was a particularly windy day. All the children in the neighborhood got out their skates and skateboards and hefty bags and we let the wind pull us down the street. It was the 70's so yeah - we were playing in the street - but it was SO MUCH FUN!
I hope you are able to get out there and enjoy it - even if it's just a little bit.
But a hot shower is good too.

It's interesting isn't it...seeing new perspectives. In TCM I think the idea is that the wind carries what is around, not just bad stuff. But, in Autumn, as the plants die off/go to sleep, there is a lot of "dead stuff" around. Wind does clear things up and bring about renewal in its own way, but if we are out and about during the process, we risk absorbing and taking in the debris...
