Truth be told, they had me at the font. I'm a bit of a freak for fonts. It fits right into my love of textiles, patterns, graphics.
But, when a show gets as much attention before it even airs, as this one did, I tend to turn my back on the bandwagon. Plus, at the time, I was trying to decrease how much tv I was watching and being incredibly picky and choosy.
Nearly two months into the Fall season, during this I-need-a-daily-dose-of-escapism stressy time, I watched the pilot episode of American Horror Story.
Wow.
I wasn't sure I liked what I saw. But, I did like some of it. It was striking...and struck some nerves. I gasped out loud and gasped in giggles. It was, in a word, confusing. It was, in another word, to a lesser degree, compelling.
I couldn't find the second episode anywhere. So, I read a summary of it and watched the third episode last night. I felt it didn't hold up as well as the pilot. But, what I liked about the pilot, I liked even more in this episode. Namely, the cast, especially Tami Taylor aka Coach's wife aka Connie Britton. This actress was so iconic to me, it has been refreshing to see her embody another role skillfully and believably.
Yet, my confusion persisted. I wanted to watch another episode, but part of me really questioned that desire. So, I googled "American Horror Story" and "Onion AV", and thankfully, my most reliable arbiter of movie/tv came through for me.
I read this piece and felt much less alone in my confusion. And it has a laugh out loud line near the end which ties together two shows I adore: Friday Night Lights and Community. (B, you have to read the piece if only for this line...)
So, thank you Onion AV, I can move forward with clarity. I am curious to see Sylar...on to episode 4!

Oh goodness, it's going to be popular culture, along with sympatico souls, that keep us connected! I ...love/am confused by ...this show! I have yet to read the onion piece, and will, after I press "publish" for this comment. I never watched Friday Night Lights, but love Connie Briton anyway :-) And I really like Dylan McDermott, going way back.
Hope the test comes back negative for mono, and that you are all decluttered and feeling fine soon! Love to all of you ...
PS: my word verification is "dazes," which about sums up me for the past week!
Funny :-) It's all connection in the end, right? Love you.
OK. Clearly, I would HATE this show. But any reference to FNL and Community is worth reading. And now I am better informed about a show I will never watch. I am nearing the end of season 1 of FNL and if I didn't think it would a terrible idea, I would probably spend my entire week off just watching ep after ep. I LOVE this show! I love Coach and Mrs. Coach. I love their daughter and Matt Serenson. I love messed up and confused Riggins. I love how folks struggle to do the right thing and often don't know what exactly that is. Love it. ~B
FNL is completely deserving of your love...and of everyone else's :-) Your description made me so nostalgic!! Confession: I did watch many episodes back-to-back-to-back :-P
My show this fall has been "Once Upon A Time". I'm enjoying it and my Mom and Aunt are really into it so it's fun to talk about it with them. Last show we all watched was Lost. Once is by 2 of the writers from Lost so clearly we all like their writing style.
