Where we are

We were part of the blizzard that hit the northeast yesterday.  The snow fell and the wind blew hard from day through the night.  It is sunny now, but the wind is still blustery.

Art found this morning.

Sag tossed and turn with a 104º+ fever last night.  He's had a high fever since yesterday.  Looks like a cold, but a fever that high can bring you down.  His appetite has been on the light side so I made him one of his favorites this morning: miso soup and rice.  Next up was veggie soup (made with chicken stock/broth) for Gem.  Inspired by the extra turnips I had cleaned and peeled but hadn't used for the veggie soup, I made a nimono.  Onion, turnip, tofu and hard boiled egg braised in a broth of dashi (water with a piece of kombu), wheat-free tamari, sugar and salt.

I must have been a good girl this year.  Santa left me pistachio marzipan truffles from Knipschildt chocolatier in my stocking.  A morsel of heaven every time.  Yum.

Thank the Universe for Auntie Sandy, Uncle Mike, the DS and Pokemon.  Cap decided it was too cold for Sag to venture out today.  There were some (inevitable) tears, but the kid found something that could successfully take his mind off of being sick and foregoing snow play for (hopefully just) one day.

I recommend Word Nerd.  It's a YA novel about a middle school aged misfit that encompasses the themes of: Scrabble, peanut allergy, single parent family, recovery, friendship and love.

I recommend Easy A.  Cap and I both really like Emma Stone who we have seen in a few movies.  This movie has a great cast, laughs and is clever.

I recommend Edinburgh, the novel.  I haven't finished it yet, but I've read enough to know it's really good.  The author was a classmate at Wesleyan though I didn't know him.  Alex's writing is beautiful.  The story being told, however, is very sad.  Hence, this book is not for everyone.

Off to make hot chocolate and lunch.  Gem just came in from the cold, Cap is still out there shoveling.  Love and light.

Did the kids set up that "pajama buddy" on the bed? Hilarious!

Gem put that installation up :-) He took it down a few minutes ago because he said it was creeping him out in the dark!
