Snowy morning

he usually wakes early in anticipation.  this boy loves snow.

gazing.

porch.

freshly fallen.

picking up V's first bagel: plain with a shmear of lox cream cheese.

underside.

bark.

berries.

branches and sky.

play.

study.

Tusen tankar

...means "a thousand thoughts" in Swedish. Kronos Quartet performed this as their encore Sunday afternoon and it was love at first hear.

Perfect for many times, but on this snowy snowy quiet peaceful morning where I am able to take a slow breath here at home...kind of extra perfect.

Enjoy.

Huancaína sauce and things in between

found queso fresco in a Stop and Shop in Clifton.

 where some balls were tested.

and wares were checked out.

found aji amarillo in a Peruvian bakery in Paterson.

found Columbus in Paterson, as well.

 tickled by Hoodwinked.

 Monopoly continues.

39 Clues cards in Melody's felted basket (thanks friend ♥)

 yucca.

 aji amarillo paste.

 the chef.

huancaína sauce.  (where have you been all my life?)

quinoa flakes!  (used for chocolate chip cookies around here...)

P.S.  Have already begun pondering a GFCF huancaína sauce.  Gem was disappointed he would be left out of trying it.

More city time

a little sleepy maybe?  no worries, this girl keeps on ticking :-)

what we got of the blizzard of '10.

love me some train travel.

on the old stoop (E's childhood home where V's mom lived for a year...and I spent many a happy time).

on the old corner.  V was such a trooper.  it was really cold yesterday, the wind was arctic and brutal.

Shake Shack.  the burgers lived up to their reputation!

time and love know no bounds.  store hopping and thrifting with V and Joao on the UWS.

building detail that caught my eye.

 my new clogs.

me and V before stepping into Lee's Art Shop.

sneaking a shot in Carnegie Hall.  gifted amazing seats to see Orpheus Chamber Orchestra.

We were also treated to an incredible sushi dinner by mom.  Cap and the kids came in for that, as well as, for some shopping at "Manhattan Toys R Us".  A cold-to-the-bone day brimming with life energy.

Wonder-full.

Magnetic poem

A fellow lover of words came over today and left this poem on our fridge.  Thank you, B.

Some threads

 (I like this picture.)

The chicken has been 'stocking' since morning.  A loaf of bread has been baked.  Friends came over to play.  It has been a tucked-in-at-home kind of day.

We hosted common meal here last night.  Lots of cooking and cleaning culminating in warm conversation and nourishing food and lots of cookies.

The night before, I introduced V to Lost.  It was fun :-)

In the evening

Yesterday was a bit crazy in my head.  The days and nights of fullness (powered in part by the moon, perhaps) caught up with me.  I needed to cancel commitments, which never feels good, but push was coming to shove and our day (for my day inevitably is deeply rooted in the 'our') was made better for it.

Our outing to do the weekly food shopping began with eating lunch at the market.  It was that kind of morning.  One thing after another pushing our departure time further and further back.  Plus, we didn't have much food left in the kitchen.  Had I an extra hour, of sated bellies and peaceful mind, maybe I could have concocted something from the slim pickings of the pantry, or served white rice with gomashio and Bragg's yet again.  But, I didn't.

Our grocery shopping ended with Gem's voice ringing out in the check out area: "we came in under budget!"  A lovely grace note :-)

At the library we returned a bunch of books and then meandered around, including a stop at the music cds on the main floor.  We'd never been there before...one of the many great things about having a new family member...you literally enter uncharted waters :-)

Home again, the chore of unloading the groceries was lightened considerably by the many helping hands.  Having a teen to take the lead on something so seemingly small truly adds up.  Once the groceries were put away, I joined the kids out front.  Chilled on the computer for a few minutes listening to them Wii.

I really didn't want to make dinner.

But, I dragged my pretty-sorry-by-then ass back into the kitchen and did just that.

Simple, routine, spaghetti.  Thank you for grounding me.  And being so tasty.

Kelly's GF apple crisp.  Thank you for being just what I needed after dinner.   Delicious nourishment for the soul.

From the pages of Sports Illustrated...

"We are not human beings having a spiritual existence. We are spiritual beings having a human existence."

Teilhard de Chardin

Monday music

Heard this in the kitchen yesterday morning while breakfasting with the kids...from the vaults of my sister's iPod.
